Compressor Stations

Compressor stations are located along natural gas pipelines at regular intervals, usually every 40 to 100 miles. These compressor stations are critical to the natural gas transportation process. They compress the gas to a pre-determined pressure, allowing it to pass through the pipeline.

Pipelines

Major natural gas pipelines receive product from various other locations in the supply chain. This includes gathering, intrastate, interstate pipelines, and distribution. These locations include gathering lines, tank farms, or (in the case of finished products) refineries and petrochemical plants. 

Terminal

Terminals (also known as tank farms) are industrial storage facilities consisting of large tanks and other equipment. Tank farms handle the storage of large quantities of petroleum and/or other liquid petrochemical products before the products are shipped for import, export, or further transportation by pipeline.

Oil Tank Battery

A tank battery is a system of extracted water, natural gas and crude oil storage tanks connected by pipelines for the storage of these products.

Extracted Water

Extracted water (also known as brine) is a by-product of modern oil and gas production. During the production of oil and gas reservoirs, naturally occurring water from the ground is brought to the surface.

Brine Treatment

When oil is extracted from certain waters that involve unusually high salt content, such as shale waters, the extracted water must usually be treated.

Offshore Platform

The top of an oil rig consists of the ground deck of the platform, including all equipment used for drilling, production, and processing. Any part of an oil platform above the waterline is considered “topside”.
